Why I love Bahrain

By Dirk Bansch of Summit Consulting & Training Ltd

A couple of years ago we went on a trip to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia that was sponsored by UK Trade & Investment.

Since then we have developed great relationships with companies in that region and have delivered several exceptionally well received management training and leadership events.

While I am always impressed by the friendliness of our Saudi hosts, I just love staying in Bahrain.

Basically, it is like Leeds, Manchester, or any large English town (maybe with less crime and better weather).

There are dozens of fantastic restaurants, serving many different cuisines, from Persian and Indian to Thai and Arabic.

They have lots of great bars and nightclubs, most of which play very good music and serve excellent drinks (my favourite haunt is Fiddlers at the Radisson).

I also like the shops in the Market Place, where I found lovely presents for family and friends.

The Bahraini National Museum is worth a visit and should be even more interesting soon, as it was being revamped when I visited it last year.

One thing I can't recommend is the traffic. It is crazy and I would be scared to drive there myself. Unfortunately, the only other option is to take a taxi and Bahraini taxi drivers are among the worst I have ever experienced. Either the meter is broken or they get lost or they drive with warp speed while talking to someone on their mobile phone. It took us a long time to find a taxi driver we liked, so now we book him every time we are in Manama.

Finally, I had a camel burger at the Crowne Plaza and got a t-shirt confirming it which is a source of great envy for my friends and colleagues.

I hope you will have a chance to visit Bahrain and enjoy it.
Let me know what you think!

That's interesting Dirk. Didn't think they'd have bars in a Moslem country, but Bahrain sounds fascinating.
