Chicken or the Egg ?
By Dirk Bansch
Hooray, new proof has been offered regarding the Chicken/Egg mystery - and nothing has changed ! Here is the paragraph from the Daily Mail that caused a lot of confusion regarding the sequence of events: "Researchers found that the formation of egg shells relies on a protein found only in a chicken's ovaries. Therefore, an egg can exist only if it has been inside a chicken. One important word is missing. Can you spot it? The word is "chicken". The last sentence should read "Therefore a CHICKEN egg can exist only if it has been inside a chicken." Duh! Not really a big revelation, is it? Nobody would really expect a chicken egg to be created inside an albatross. The researchers mentioned in the article found a specific molecule called ovocleidin which is a member of a family of C-type lectin-like proteins and their main function is to bind calcium. Similar proteins have been found in all birds, because these proteins are necessary to create egg shells. The birds that evolved into chickens laid eggs, the last common ancestor of all birds laid eggs, the reptiles that preceded the birds laid eggs. So, let's chalk this up to shoddy reporting and a quiet news day, but nothing has changed - the egg is still number 1 ! |

Still number 1

So you are supporting creationism, then, since all multi-celled animals are propagated by ovular function and since ovular function cannot exist without the ovary. All we need now is to discover which of the cloaca came first (no pun intended) and how the gonads of the male developed in tandem with the ovaries of the female (just imagine a gonad driven gaggle of grumbling chickens without a single ovary between them!). Then we need to discover how the cock bird knew to mount the hen bird and introduce cloaca so that the male and female gametes could fuse and form a zygote. Then we have to discover how the zygote was moved to a womb-like structure that would encourage the generation of the largest single cell in the animal kingdom before building a protective shell around it. Oh, yes, the shell also needs to be semi-intelligent because it needs to be a little flexible before being expelled from the body of the hen bird. etc. etc. etc. Yup! Creationism ot intelligent design.
This chicken egg story caused quite a stir I wrote an article touching on it also! Now all we need to know is why the chicken really crossed the road. LOL
If scientists figure out how to synthesize "ovocleidin", UPS could start making round boxes for people taking to build a nest egg.
Creationists wouldn't agree would they? peter
